Candlelight vigil held outside Trinity Church Hounslow

A candlelight vigil for victims of the Nepal earthquakes was held this weekend. Many people, from all backgrounds came to gather in Church Square, outside Holy Trinity Church, in High Street, Hounslow, on Saturday 23rd May 2015, to remember the many victims of the disaster.

Thousands were killed and many more were left homeless by a devastating quake on April 25, and the country’s recovery was set back by a second large earthquake on May 12, which claimed yet more casualties.

Hounslow has a large population of Gurkhas, who hail from Nepal, and many people in the borough have relatives or friends caught up in the tragedy.

Hounslow’s deputy mayor Bishnu Gurung, himself a Gurkha, lead the vigil, as around 500 people attended to pay their respects.

“My heart goes out to all who have suffered in the Nepal earthquake I pray for a speedy return to normality, ,” Cllr Hanif Khan said.

The evening was enjoyed by everyone
